Video Poker is a beloved game that can be played in casinos around the world, or in your house on your personal computer, through a net account. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the involvement with any other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘distributed’ on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts should now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards are needed they will be handed out. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that knowledgeable gamblers are agile enough to choose the most profitable machine every time.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either decide to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game give the bettor an opportunity to double their profits, in which case another game is played. There are also differences among specific games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying aspects to increase playability.
